Herdade da Maceira sits on the N120 road in São Luís, inside the Southwest Alentejo and Vicentine Coast Natural Park. It was set up by Tiago and Gisela, who swapped banking in Porto for the countryside with their family, to offer comfort, wellbeing and rest in a family atmosphere.
The estate covers several hectares of woodland with trails, meditation spots, a small panoramic pool and a jacuzzi, and gives access to Pego das Pias, the river pool on the Torgal stream. Restaurante da Maceira, with an open kitchen and large windows, serves breakfast plus lunch and dinner menus made with produce from the estate’s organic garden.
There are seven room types: Maceira Love Suite, Suite Rose Deluxe, Family Deluxe Suite, Double Suite, Triple Suite, Family Deluxe Studio and a glamping tent with a private jacuzzi. Pets are welcome.
The house runs on solar thermal and photovoltaic power and a heat pump, treats and reuses its own wastewater, and is built partly with hemp blocks. It also hosts events, retreats and co-living stays, and guests can sponsor and plant a tree.
