Who We Are
Also known simply as "SRMS" or Sociedade Musical e Recreativa São Luizense, founded on 15 March 1929, the Sociedade Recreativa e Musical Sanluizense is one of the oldest and most active collectivities in São Luís — a village association built around music, recreation and community life.
The society's emblem reflects the pillars of the village economy and identity it was born from: wheat and grapes for agriculture, a football for sport, and a lyre for music. Nearly a century later, it keeps the village's associative pulse going — running a sports and social club, hosting card tournaments, table football and snooker, and organising the parties, dances and cultural evenings that punctuate São Luís' calendar throughout the year. It works closely with the Parish Council, Casa do Povo and other local associations to support the community's cultural and recreational life.

Recent Activity
SRMS remains an active presence in São Luís' cultural agenda, both organising its own events and supporting village-wide initiatives.
Tasquinhas de São Luís — 26th edition
SRMS organises the Tasquinhas de São Luís, the village's traditional food, crafts and music festival, running from 24 to 26 July 2026. The children's cante alentejano group Pequenas Vozes do Mira is also set to take the stage during the festival.
"Montras" — Village Art Trail
SRMS was one of the local entities supporting the Transição São Luís movement's "Montras" initiative, alongside the Parish Council and Casa do Povo — a summer exhibition that turned the village's shop windows and streets into open-air galleries for local artists and craftspeople.
Working Together
SRMS is part of São Luís' network of associations, cooperating with other local entities to keep community life active:

Fundação O Cerro
