Natural rock pools on the Torgal stream, between São Luís and Odemira — a highlight of the Rota Vicentina Historical Way.
Pego das Pias is a series of natural pools carved into the rock of the Torgal stream, one of the main tributaries of the Mira River. It lies between São Luís and Odemira, about 5 km from Odemira; according to the sources consulted, it is already in the parish of São Salvador.
The pools are almost all deep, except at the entrance, and there are rocks to jump into the water from. It is one of the highlights of the São Luís – Odemira stage of the Rota Vicentina Historical Way.
Right next to it, the EN120 road crosses the stream on the Sol Posto Bridge, completed in 1936 to a design by engineer António Ferrugento Gonçalves; its 60 m arch was a national record for reinforced concrete.
Via the EN120: just before the bridge over the Torgal stream (Sol Posto Bridge) a dirt track on the left leads to the pools.
On foot, Pego das Pias is on the São Luís – Odemira stage of the Rota Vicentina.
