One of Odemira's historic villages

São Luís is one of the oldest and most populous parishes in the municipality of Odemira. Part of the municipality since the 1256 Charter, its history is intertwined with that of the region itself.

The landscape is dominated by the imposing Serra de São Domingos, whose iron mines were for centuries the local economic engine, and by the Mira River with its old river port at Casa Branca — through which ore and grain were once shipped to the coast.

Today, the village surprises with its vibrant creative community: artists, ceramicists and craftspeople of various nationalities live in harmony with local people and traditions, in a rare encounter between Alentejo roots and rural cosmopolitanism.
